Sets the age that picks your commutation factor.
This decides which annual increases you carry — an increase does not apply to someone who retired after its cut-off.
KP computes the pension on the last basic pay drawn, not a 24-month average.
Only used for the medical allowance: 25% below BPS 16, 20% at BPS 16 and above.

Year by year

How the annual increases build your pension

IncreaseRateAmountRunning pensionNote

Each increase compounds on the total before it, and one you retired after does not apply to you at all — which is why two people on identical pay and service can draw very different pensions.

Step by step

How the pension is worked out

  1. Qualifying service

Years between appointment and retirement, rounded up if the remainder passes five months, capped at 30.

  2. Gross pension

Emoluments multiplied by service, times seven over three hundred. Thirty years earns 70% of pay.

  3. Commutation

The share you commute is converted to a lump sum using an age factor, and returns to your monthly pension at restoration.

  4. Increases and allowances

Each annual increase compounds on the one before, but only if you had retired by its cut-off. Medical allowance is added last.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa notifies its own increases

The formula for working out a pension is common ground across the federal and provincial governments — it comes from the same Civil Service Regulations lineage. What differs is the increase chain layered on top, and KP issues its own notifications.

They have often mirrored the federal percentages, but "often" is not "always", and a year where the province diverged changes every subsequent figure because increases build on one another. Check the KP Finance Department notification for the year rather than assuming the federal figure carried across.

Commutation is a trade, not a bonus

The lump sum is not extra money. You are selling part of your monthly pension for a number of years in exchange for cash now, and the monthly figure stays reduced until the commuted portion restores.

Whether that is a good trade depends on things a calculator cannot weigh: whether you have an immediate use for the capital that earns more than the pension you gave up, your health and family history, and whether you would actually invest the lump sum or spend it. Someone clearing a debt at a high rate is in a different position from someone who will leave it in a savings account.

Which base each increase uses

Increases are not all calculated on the same amount. Some apply to the pension originally sanctioned, others to the pension currently drawn. That distinction is why adding the percentages together gives a number well above the real one.

Where this stops

This applies the formula and the increases recorded here. The Accountant General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa holds your service record, and the Pension Payment Order issued from it is what governs.

FAQs

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pension Calculator FAQs

How is the KP pension calculated?

Gross pension is your emoluments multiplied by qualifying service, times seven over three hundred, so thirty years of service earns 70% of pay. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa takes emoluments as your last basic pay drawn, plus senior post, personal, qualification and other pay that counts as emoluments. That differs from the federal government, which averages the last 24 months.

Does KP really pay differently from the federal government?

Yes, in two ways that both matter. The pay basis is the last basic pay rather than a 24-month average, and the annual increase history is not the same — KP granted 15% in 2013 where the federal government granted 10%, and 10% in 2015 where the federal government granted 7.5%. On identical facts the two can differ by well over Rs 15,000 a month.

What counts as qualifying service?

The span from first appointment to retirement, capped at 30 years. More than 30 leftover days rounds up to another month, and more than five leftover months rounds up to another full year.

How much can I commute, and what is it worth?

Up to 35% of gross pension. The lump sum is that monthly amount multiplied by an age factor from the commutation table — 148.4628 at age 60, and higher the younger you retire. It is restored to your monthly pension after roughly twelve years and four months.

Why do the annual increases not all apply to me?

Each carries a cut-off date and does not apply to anyone who retired after it. Most of the 2011 and 2015 to 2021 increases stop at 30 June 2022 in KP, so a recent retiree carries far fewer of them than someone who left in 2014.

How do the 2025 and 2026 increases work in KP?

Both are 7%, and unlike the federal versions they compound on the running total rather than being taken on the 2024 figure. The KP calculator does it this way, so it is reproduced here.

How is the medical allowance worked out?

It is 25% of the post-2010 pension below BPS 16 and 20% at BPS 16 and above, with a further 25% increase on the allowance itself, both added after the annual increases. The orderly allowance above BPS 19 is added at the same point.

What happens on death during service or after retirement?

Death during service fixes commutation at 25% and pays it as gratuity, with no restoration. Death after retirement pays the family 75% of the net pension.

Is this the figure AG KP will actually pay?

It reproduces the AG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa calculator's own arithmetic, but your pension is settled on your verified service record and your last pay slip. Confirm against the PPO the AG office issues.
