Good to know
Key Tax Year 2026-2027 income tax reminders
Who must file?
Resident individuals with income above the basic exemption, property income, capital gains, or foreign assets must file for Tax Year 2026-2027. Filing keeps you on the Active Taxpayers List.
Important due dates
Salaried returns are typically due by 30 September 2026; AOPs and businesses by 31 October 2026 unless FBR grants an extension. Pay advance tax quarterly if applicable.
Documents to keep ready
Salary certificates, bank profit statements, rental agreements, withholding tax certificates and donation receipts before you start filling IRIS.
Reading the result
Salaried and non-salaried are not interchangeable
The two schedules are genuinely different, and the salaried one is more generous at almost every band. Picking the wrong one produces a number that looks reasonable and is wrong by a wide margin.
The test is the source, not the job title. Income from employment — where an employer deducts and reports it — is salary. Income from your own practice, trade or freelance work is not, however regular it feels. Someone with both has to split them rather than pick whichever is kinder.
The effective rate is the honest number
People describe themselves as being "in the 30% bracket" and assume 30% of everything goes in tax. Because the slabs are progressive, the lower bands keep working underneath, so the share of total income actually paid is considerably lower. The effective rate shown here is that figure, and it is the one to use when comparing offers or budgeting.
What the payslip will add
This works out income tax. Take-home pay also reflects EOBI, provident fund and anything else your employer deducts, so the figure landing in your account will be lower. It also does not apply tax credits and deductible allowances, which push in the other direction.
It applies the enacted slabs for the year you select. It does not model multiple employers, income from other heads, or tax already withheld elsewhere — all of which change what you actually transfer at filing.
FAQs
Pakistan income tax calculator FAQs
Which tax year does this calculator cover?
It is updated for Pakistan's Tax Year 2026-2027 (Tax Year 2026-2027) FBR income tax slabs, covering both salaried and non-salaried / business individuals. You can also switch to earlier years back to FY2014-15.
Is the salary surcharge included?
Yes. The 9% salaried surcharge has been abolished for Tax Year 2026-2027, so it is not applied to salaried income. For non-salaried income above Rs 10,000,000, a 10% surcharge on tax payable is added automatically.
Do you store my salary or income data?
No. Every calculation runs locally inside your browser — your figures never leave your device and nothing is stored on a server.
Should I choose salaried or non-salaried?
Choose "Salaried" if more than 50% of your income is salary; the salaried slabs are lower. Choose "Non-salaried / Business" for business income, freelancing, or AOP income taxed under the business slabs.
How accurate are the slabs?
The rates follow the Finance Act 2026 announcements for Tax Year 2026-2027. If FBR revises the rates, update data/calculators/income-tax/slabs.json and the calculator reflects the change instantly.
