Good to know
Negotiating in net vs gross
Offers in net terms
Many Pakistani offers are discussed in take-home terms. Quote the gross so payroll and tax are handled correctly.
Gross is what's taxed
Income tax applies to gross salary; your take-home is what's left after the FBR slabs.
Beyond income tax
Actual pay may also reflect EOBI and provident fund — use the payslip calculator for the full picture.
Reading the result
Negotiate on gross, and know what the gross has to be
Offers are made in gross. Household budgets run on net. This bridges the two, which is exactly the number you want before a salary conversation rather than after accepting one.
Because the slabs are progressive, the relationship is not proportional. Raising your target take-home by ten percent does not raise the gross you need by ten percent — the extra sits in your top band and costs more.
Gross is not the same as cost to company
Employers frequently quote a package that folds in provident fund, EOBI, medical cover, fuel and bonuses. Only part of it is the taxable salary this works on, and some components are taxed differently again. Comparing one employer's CTC against another's basic salary is comparing two unlike figures.
The payslip will not match exactly
This works out income tax. Your actual net also reflects provident fund contributions, EOBI, any loan recovery and whatever else your employer deducts. Expect the real figure to be lower than the one here, and ask for a full deduction breakdown before treating an offer as settled.
The net salary and payslip calculator works forward from gross with those deductions included.
Where this stops
It uses the salaried slabs and does not apply tax credits or deductible allowances, which can raise your actual take-home above what this shows.
